What
Spanish tapas set in the famous Boqueria market.
Why
Its location in La Boqueria is steps away from some of the best local produce, meats and fish available. It doesn’t get more fresh than that!
Bar Pinotxo | La Boqueria
June 21, 2009
Bar Pinotxo is a small cafe/stall tucked in between the fruit and vegetable stands in the Mercat De La Boqueria, one of the grand temples of fresh produce, jamon, seafood, and all around deliciousness.
If you’ve ever seen tourist photos from the boqueria, chances are high you’ve seen a shot of Bar Pinotxo and owner Juan Bayen, clad in his signature striped vest with matching bow tie giving the double thumbs up for the camera.
This place is short order Catalan cooking at its finest. Their Morella con garbanzos (chickpea dish) could easily inspire vegetarians to cross over to the dark side, with raisins, pine nuts, and blood sausage, topped with just the right amount of sea salt. Fresh grilled prawns, razor clams, and their well known croquettas are all worth trying.
Be prepared to wait to sit down, since seating is limited. However, waiting for a stool isn’t so bad. You can grab a cold cervesa and chat with both locals, tourists, and quite possibly a well known chef or two.

WHAT THEY SAID
Pinotxo has been there for a long time, he’s right at the front of the market; he’s there everyday and he’s always dressed up and always taking pictures with everybody. They do the most delicious, super simple food that is expertly prepared and it has so much flavor. The chickpeas are awesome. His gambas are awesome.
Bar Pinotxo never disappoints.

For the market and to eat there -- at Pinotxo. You get two fried eggs covered with these little squid that they cook right on the plancha.
