Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams
Jeni’s Splendid is the answer to an ice cream lover’s ultimate fantasy. They combine farm fresh milk and cream from grass-eating cows with inventive flavors that range from Absinthe to Guava to Whiskey & Pecans.
Jeni Britton Bauer’s path began when she left art school at Ohio State University to open Scream Ice Cream in Columbus’ North Market. This would eventually morph into Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams in 2002.
The Columbus native won the coveted James Beard Award for her book “Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams at Home.” They currently have eight shops in Columbus and one each in Cleveland and Nashville (called Hot & Cold), but her sweet treats can be found all over the country at these locations.
Here are Jeni’s savory and sweet picks for where she likes to eat and drink in Ohio.

Third and Hollywood
My number one go-to dish is the hand-ladled ricotta and greens. Super garlicky greens, ricotta made, while you wait, with Snowville Creamery whole milk. It all comes out in little cast iron pans and you spoon it out onto toasts. It’s an appetizer, but I always get it for my dinner.

Cap City Diner
When we’ve got guests in town we always go to Cap City Diner. The chefs are always accommodating, the food is always top notch and I can get the Ohio Nachos - kettle chips with alfredo sauce, Maytag Blue and chives. These are so good that other restaurants in town now put them on their menu. Good for a once-a-year splurge.

Mi Li Cafe
A little known fact about Columbus, we have a very diverse assortment of great restaurants. At Mi Li Cafe, they make their bread with rice flour to make the traditional Vietnamese Banh Mi sandwich. The fresh, crisp-on-the-outside, but soft-on-the-inside bread, the perfect pork, cold veggies and pate make this sandwich intensely crave-able for me when I need salt and umami -- the antidote to too much sugar.

Sweet Carrot Casual Cuisine
There are many food trucks in Columbus. It’s impossible to choose one, but one dish that I can never get off my mind is the corn cake with pulled pork from Sweet Carrot. It’s topped with a milky and tangy corn salsa, the likes of which I’ve never had anywhere else. It’s richer than Daddy Warbucks, but worth the coma.

Till
If I really eat too much ice cream, which happens only rarely, I go straight to Till, where they make me a shrub - a fizzy, vinegary fruit drink that always helps.
