Dear Irving
Opened by bartender Meaghan Dorman and the team behind Raines Law Room. You’ll find former Beagle barman Tom Richter (Tomr’s Tonic) behind the stick making cocktails from a menu that features ten house and five classic cocktails. “I’m excited to have a little sister to Raines,” says Dorman. “We get to have fun with drinks. The ‘Hero of Little Venice’ is a grown-up version of a root beer float and the ‘Samoa’ tastes like the famous Girl Scout cookie.”

This second floor cocktail den is designed around four different themes, each decor representing a different era. Interior designer Delphine Mauroit says she was inspired by the film “Midnight in Paris.” The front room is the 1950s & 1960s JFK room, the second represents the F. Scott Fitzgerald Art Deco period, then you move into the Abe Lincoln era and end up in the Marie Antoinette room.
They take reservations, but also have seats for walk-ins. Next week, they will begin serving food with small plate dishes like a lobster roll, steak tartare, a mini croque-monsieur and a few vegetarian options.

Here are a few other Manhattan newcomers to the bar scene that bartenders Tom Richter and Meaghan Dorman recommend checking out.

Nitecap
A subterranean cocktail den from bartender Natasha David along with Death & Co owners, Alex Day and David Kaplan. “We were aiming to create a space that had a serious cocktail program but that most importantly was fun,” says Natasha. Look for Shapiro's on Rivington Street and head downstairs. As the name implies, this is where you come for your last drink of the night, but they don't mind if you start your night here too. Tom Richter opts for the late end of the night. “They have a great shot and a beer menu. That is what I want when I get off work.” Meaghan Dorman likes their creative cocktails, “I think the menu is really fun. They have a couple of Champagne options and I’m a real fan of that.”

The Ship
A brand new bar from barmen Cervantes Ramirez, Steve Choo, Louis and Joseph Schwartz, who was the co-founder of Little Branch. Richter recommends coming here for their “top notch cocktails.” The cocktails are classic with unique spins and they list a Bartender's Choice, which they note you can send back if you don't like it. For food, they offer a small bites menu with crab cakes, lobster rolls, pate, cheeses and charcuterie.
