What
Traditional Egyptian.
Why
Egyptian native Sam Tutt makes each pop-over pita by hand, per order.
Sam Tutt opened Tutt Café in 1995 and has been making pitas by hand, per order, ever since. Shaped like a bubble, the pitas are large, puffy and hallow inside. They are served with a variety of traditional salads: creamy hummus, smoky babaghanoush, tabouleh with large pieces of fresh parsley and mint, and foul, which is made up of fava beans and tomato. The lentils and bulgur salad is topped with crispy, fried onions, making it sweet and crunchy.
Sam, who is Egyptian, also makes fresh pitas for the sandwiches and pitzas. The merguez (spicy lamb sausage) sandwich is juicy and rich, with a hint of cumin. The grilled chicken sandwich is well seasoned and served with a zesty tahini sauce, which gives it a tinge of kick.
Tutt Café doesn’t serve any alcohol, but you can BYOB. For traditional style non-alcoholic drinks, they serve a refreshing iced mint tea and Loomi, a Middle Eastern citrus drink.
This is the place to enjoy real deal Egyptian cuisine. Go for the food, not the décor.
