Small little sandwich shop and bakery putting out really tasty stuff. Opened by Caroline Fidanza, who was the founding chef at both Marlow and Sons and Diner. She’s partnered with baker Elizabeth Schula, and chef Rebecca Collerton.
The place has the feel of a small, old English fish and chip shop, in a good way. If you are looking for a simple turkey sandwich, don’t bother stopping in at Saltie. They are doing some fun stuff with their sandwich selections.
The Captain’s Daughter has sardines, pickled egg, salsa verde on homemade focaccia. It was well seasoned - you could taste the crunch of the salt - balanced, briny, fresh, clean. The focaccia soaks up some of the juices and makes it a wonderful sandwich.
The Little Chef has stronger punchier flavors, but is equally balanced. Made with mortadella, pecorino, green olives, parsley, it has much brinier flavors, but it all comes together.
The sandwiches are listed on the board, but the names are only a minor clue as to the contents. Get a list of sandwiches from the counter.
Leave room for the pastries (eccles cakes, shortbreads, cookies) or the ice-creams.
