CAFE DU MONDE
Sure it’s on every tourist’s radar, but it’s worth stopping in, at least for a photo op. Hot, puffy squares of sugar-coated beignets (fried dough) are churned out 24/7 and have been since 1862. Just be careful if you’re wearing a dark color, the mountains of powdered sugar end up everywhere.
Recommended by: Chef Edgar Chase IV (Dooky Chase’s) and Pastry Chef David Guas.

Tujague’s
Chris Hannah says go on Fridays and Saturday to meet Paul. “He’s an icon and even if it’s just me who thinks so. It’s my favorite Sazerac and his Angostura Phosphate is amazing, best cocktail in town.”

Sazerac Bar
The watering hole of choice for the “Kingfish” (Louisiana’s 40th Governor, Huey P. Long), the Sazerac Bar has remained a constant, right down to the original design with honey-colored African walnut wood and 1930’s WPA-era murals by artist Paul Ninas. Local chefs Edgar Chase IV (Dooky Chase), David Guas, and John Besh all recommend it. It may not be the best cocktail in town, but it is worth stopping in to see the room.

Hermes Bar at Antoine’s Restaurant
A new bar recently added to the 171 year old Creole restaurant. Chef Adolfo Garcia recommends the “classic, old-school cocktails.” They also have a snack menu with Oyster Foch, Shrimp Remoulade and Alligator Soup.

Classic
Bar Tonique
Cream-colored leather banquettes and flickering candlelight make up the sexy atmosphere of this bar, across from Louis Armstrong Park. Chris Hannah gives them a nod, “kudos to them for making good drinks late, as well as helping to change opinions of those who think Rampart can’t happen again.”

Napoleon House
Napoleon never made it to the Napoleon House, but it’s worth stopping in for the signature Pimm’s Cup. Laid-back, two hundred year old landmark with classical music playing and a courtyard that has hosted many famous artists and writers. If you get hungry, they’re also known for their muffuletta.

THE COLUMNS HOTEL
Built in 1883, this upper Garden District grand dame is a great spot to grab a drink on the front porch, overlooking St. Charles, to watch the trolly cars amble by. Chef Donald Link recommends cocktails at The Columns Hotel “for its setting and view.” It is also the location of Louis Malle's 1970s movie "Pretty Baby," starring a young Brooke Shields.

Cure
Craft cocktail bar in a converted 19th century firehouse that is winning the respect of fellow bartenders in the city. Longtime New Orleans barman Chris McMillian picks it if “you want to experience the cutting-edge of the craft cocktail community.” And French 75’s Chris Hannah says, “Still THE destination in New Orleans and the best bar to wear a costume to for no reason, they welcome costumes.”

Bar Uncommon
Chris McMillian is a fourth-generation bartender, with an encyclopedic grasp of history about the American cocktail. Chris Hannah calls him “The godfather of our New Orleanian cocktail mafia. It is important to have a cocktail from McMillian when in New Orleans. You’ll be able to say you have for the rest of your life, it will be one of your favorite cocktail experiences to talk to him while quaffing.”

Satsuma Cafe
Local people eating locally grown food in one of the hippest neighborhoods in New Orleans. French 75’s bartender Chris Hannah stops in for breakfast and pastries. Satsuma is basically a coffee shop with no proper kitchen, exposed bricks walls and a menu that revolves around the seasons.
