From chef Matt Jennings: “Time for a fun night out in the city? Since 1995, I’ve been going to The Franklin for down home, well prepared food, and stiff drinks made to order. Growing up in Boston and cooking around town, as my late teens turned into my twenties, The Franklin became an industry hang-out for sweaty cooks fresh off the line, servers with fistfuls of cash and everyone in between.
Open until 1:30 am, seven days a week, The Franklin does its thing well - simple elegance, down to earth approach. Food made fast and with fresh ingredients. Imagine going to your best friend’s house for dinner- just a little bit louder and more brash, a few more people than you thought were going to be there, oh...and getting a bill at the end of the meal. That’s what Franklin is all about. Making you feel at home.
The cocktails here are no joke, either. Manhattans (my personal poison) frothy and shaken so hard their icy cap trembles at the rim of the glass after being set down on the bar top. Sit if you can find a spot at the bar, but good luck. Otherwise, stand anywhere you want. Watch the kitchen in action while you wait for your table. Slurp that bourbon elixir all you want - they’ll make more.
There’s no unsuccessful gastro-foolishness here, or drinks made by way of ingredients you can’t pronounce. Brash, no bullshit good food and drink. Solid. Delicious. Affordable, affable decadence. Dig?”
