There are a couple of wine focused reasons to visit Bar Henry. They have a bottle sharing type program in the form of their Market List. You have the chance to order half of a full bottle and the other half is sold to other customers. And they have an excellent old world focused aged (i.e. ready-to-drink) Reserve List.
The 100 bottle Market List contains a broad selection of choices at a variety of prices that will peak your interest. If you want to dig deeper or have a reason to celebrate, take a look at the Reserve List. There, you may be tempted by a depth of ready to drink French, Italian, German, or Austrian classics, such as a half-bottle of Guigal 1970 Hermitage or a Produttori del Barbaresco 1988 Riverva Ovello.
We have yet to venture into the dining room, but for the wine list alone, we’ll be back to explore some more under the guidance of wine director John Slover. He previously worked at Blue Hill and Cru and knows his wine. He’ll point you in the right wine direction and chances are he’ll tempt you with something you weren’t thinking about.
Lest you think Bar Henry is only about wine, on the wintry night we visited, they were selling limited quantities of Tom and Jerry’s (a version of egg nog) to warm you up. They seem to enjoy writing on the glass around the bar to keep track of things, like the number of cocktails remaining, or the opened bottles of wine available. It definitely provides a jovial, engaging atmosphere.
